How to manage people and meet goals
To manage people to meet certain goals you must have a game plan. If you are a project manager you will have many different departments working toward common goals at the same time to make sure each job description has been done efficiently and on a timely basis. When you have many jobs to be done with restrictions and time limits, it is important to have a visible time line graph for workers to see and check off on as jobs are completed.
Any good leadership style on how to manage and meet goals will be determined on how well the manager relates and interacts with his employee’s. Keeping all the workers on the same page and having good communication skills are very important in getting many projects done and for goals to be met.
Daily meetings will determine the status of jobs not completed and give you much needed attention to other jobs that need to be done to stay on schedule and that way you can locate more workers to a specific task. The time line graph will have many jobs that will take longer than others, so as workers finish jobs and check off on them they can be relocated to help with the more labor intensive jobs at hand. Job time estimations help in evaluating specific jobs that have been done before and let managers know which jobs are more labor intensive. A good leadership style to set in presentation to others would be to help when ever possible and be there to trouble shoot problems that may happen. Being accessible to the people that work for you is essential to making deadlines and goals for the team.
The time line graphs are very necessary for workers working independently with little or no supervision. This in turn will free up the supervisor to make sure people are doing their job efficiently and safely. Different color lines on the graph will let the department workers know what jobs they have for that day and help them track which jobs need to be finished or eliminated from the chart. Many problems such as lack of supplies or waiting for new equipment to arrive can be discussed by managers and supervisors by adding them to the bottom of the graph as to when they will be shipped in. This system works and it helps manage workers and cut down on wasted time.
Managing people to meet goals will greatly depend on how you communicate with them. Speak in layman’s terms when possible and clarify the situations by explaining in clear tones of voice and description of the job. Taking a little time to explain how you want things done can help your workers do things quickly and efficiently. Eliminating costly errors that may have them doing things twice. Praising your workers for doing a good job can motivate them and can point them in the correct direction to do quality work. This makes everyone happy but does not exclude those that are challenged and feel left out of the team environment. Simple things can keep these workers in check and on track to get the job done. Pairing them up with workers that are motivated and sensitive to their ideas can be a good idea. It will teach those type workers what is expected of them in a team.
